Our Story
Since we opened earlier in 2024, we’ve loved being able to serve high-quality coffee, delicious food, and unforgettable memories to our customers. We’ve also enjoyed getting to be a part of Flower Mound’s community through various community events!
However, the story of Cerulean Blue begins long before we first opened our doors.
The Shift from Corporate
Cerulean Blue Coffee House held a soft opening in May of 2024 and officially opened its doors on June 8th. However, for Paul and Jackie Dietzler, Cerulean Blue’s owners, the path to opening a coffee house was a long and winding one.
For many years, Paul Dietzler was a successful businessman in the American corporate
landscape. Over the course of two decades, he worked hard and climbed the corporate ladder to become the Executive Vice President of his organization.
However, he soon felt the pull to leave the corporate landscape for something new. He wanted to do something that would bring his whole family together, as well as something that would allow him to make a difference in his community and in the world.
In 2012, he took a leap of faith and left his corporate job to pursue entrepreneurship.
The Dietzlers have always valued community, and Paul wanted to find a way to give back and help his own community. He founded Matthew 6 Ministries, which focused on giving back to nonprofit organizations.
Over time, Matthew 6 Ministries became Collective Way, a nonprofit with the mission of
partnering with faith-based businesses to help meet their economic, social, and spiritual needs.
Additionally, Paul currently serves as the CEO of Expo Home Improvement, a home
improvement company that focuses on giving back to the community.
However, Paul and Jackie wanted a way to reach and connect with their community in a more direct way. They wanted a space to foster meaningful relationships and give back to others in a practical way. That was when they first thought of opening a coffee house in Flower Mound.
Following a Calling
Although Paul and Jackie discussed opening a coffee house for years, the idea would not become a reality for a long time. In fact, the Dietzlers actually considered opening a coffee house for the first time before the pandemic, but after looking around for a storefront for some time, they decided to put it on the backburner and pursue other endeavors.
A few years after the idea had been set aside, their daughter Jess graduated from TWU and discovered a love for baking. She found that she loved creating and tweaking her own recipes to make the perfect baked goods.
Her family saw her talent and wanted to encourage Jess as much as possible. Paul and Jackie encouraged her to start selling her pastries to various organizations within the community for their events. They watched Jess rise to the occasion and successfully deliver large quantities of baked goods for various events.
With Jess fully committed to pursuing baking as a full-time career, they began to seek out a space for her to sell her baked goods. That was when they realized the perfect place to sell pastries is… a coffee house.
At the same time, a family friend reached out to Paul. This friend remembered the Dietzlers’ search for a space to open a coffee shop, and he let them know that a spot was available in Parker Square.
In 2023, after years of dreaming and praying, all of the pieces of the puzzle finally seemed to be coming together. The Dietzlers knew: it was time to open their coffee house!
Why Cerulean Blue?
From the beginning, the Dietzlers wanted Cerulean Blue to be a place where people could feel safe and comfortable. For years, the Dietzler family have enjoyed vacationing in Destin, Florida.
This was always a place for the family to get away, reconnect, and enjoy some much-needed quality time as a family.
When thinking about opening their coffee house, Paul and Jackie Dietzler knew they wanted to bring this feeling to their community in Flower Mound, Texas – the warmth of the sun, the deep calm of the ocean, the feeling of serenity and togetherness.
In fact, it was the gorgeous blue of the sea that inspired the name Cerulean Blue.
Cerulean is a shade of blue that evokes a sense of calm in people, which is why it is commonly used in paintings of the sea and sky.
One day, Paul and Jackie were looking back at pictures from their vacations to Destin, Florida, and Paul asked what shade of blue the ocean was. When Jackie said, “Cerulean blue,” they knew they had their name!
Family Owned, Community Focused
Cerulean Blue Coffee House is family owned and operated. Paul and Jackie have four kids - Samantha, Jessica, Joshua, and Aleigha - who all contribute to the mission and vision of Cerulean Blue in their own unique ways. The Dietzler kids are all adopted – all of the girls are from South Korea, and Joshua is from Minnesota!
Today, Jessica (who goes by Jess) is the chief baker at Cerulean Blue – all of their delicious pastries are by her design! Whenever you come in and try a biscuit with strawberry butter or her famous G.O.A.T. cookie, you’re supporting the dreams of a talented young baker.
Jess is not the only Dietzler kid helping out at Cerulean Blue, though! Samantha, the Dietzlers’ eldest daughter, currently works as their marketing director. After graduating from college, she’s excited to use her knowledge, creativity, and expertise to help market her family’s business!
Additionally, you can find the Dietzlers’ son Joshua behind the bar, serving up drinks with a smile. Together, each member of the family plays a part in seeing the mission and vision of Cerulean Blue Coffee House come to life.
Our Mission: Loving People, Cultivating Connection
Here at Cerulean Blue Coffee House, our community drives everything we do. We are focused and passionate about creating a space where people feel welcomed, seen, and connected to their community. When people enter our front doors, we want them to feel as comfortable as if they were in their own home; in other words, we want to be the living room of Flower Mound.
How do we do this? Cerulean Blue is more than just a coffee house. Outside of coffee, we are also focused on giving back to the community around us in every way we can. One way we aim to do this is through hosting events in our space. Since we’ve opened, we’ve been proud to host many successful events in our space, such as:
● A gathering to celebrate and highlight nonprofits we work with
● Young Adult Night to give young adults in the area a chance to connect with one another
and with the community
● A book signing with author Khris Ferland
● Weekly Sunday prayer nights, open to the public
…and we’re just getting started! More than anything, Cerulean Blue Coffee House is a place where people can come together and connect with one another.
Our Partners
Cerulean Blue’s mission doesn’t just apply to the community of Flower Mound, though. Cerulean Blue has many different partners who contribute to impacting a global community for the greater good.
One of these partners is our coffee supplier, Serve Hope. While everyone could agree that every person deserves access to clean water, not every family does. For every ten pounds of coffee Cerulean Blue buys, Serve Hope sends a water filter to a family in Central America who lacks access to clean water. Each of these filters can produce up to 1 million gallons of clean water!
Additionally, every quarter, we choose another organization to partner with to make a practical difference in the lives of people all across the globe. For example, our two most recent partners have been YouCanFreeUs, an organization with the goal of ending human trafficking, and Broken Halos Haven, who supports grieving young widows and their children.
