Cerulean Blue Gives Back

Cerulean Blue Coffee House is proud to be one of Flower Mound’s newest coffee shops. Whether you’re meeting a friend to catch up, need somewhere to get some work done, or just simply looking to enjoy a nice cup of coffee and a cookie, Cerulean Blue is the place to be!

Did you know that Cerulean Blue is more than just a coffee, though? When you visit us, you’re supporting multiple different nonprofit initiatives in our city, the nation, and across the globe. Today, we want to share more with you about the various nonprofits we support at Cerulean Blue and how simply being a customer allows you to contribute to great causes!

Partnership With Serve Hope International

Year-round, we partner with Serve Hope International to meet the needs of families in Central America and to bring you a delicious cup of coffee. Read on to learn more!

The Mission

Serve Hope International ’s mission is to transform lives by sharing the Gospel and meeting real, tangible needs within communities all around the globe. They focus on education, career training, and community development as they disciple disenfranchised people groups.

Their current initiative, Pura Agua, focuses on providing clean drinking water for families throughout Central Asia. Unclean drinking water presents serious issues in groups of people around the world, causing serious health issues and even death.

Clean water is essential to human health and should be accessible to everyone, no matter their geographical location or economic status. That’s why, through the Pura Agua initiative, Serve Hope International “trains, accompanies and mobilizes local churches in Central America to join in the Great Commission by making disciples and distributing water filters that purify water by 99.9%.”

One of the ways that Serve Hope International raises funds for the Pura Agua initiative is through coffee sales - that’s where Cerulean Blue enters the picture! We purchase all of our whole bean coffee from Serve Hope International, and for every ten pounds of coffee purchased, they are able to provide one water filter for a family in Central America. While that might not sound like much, each filter can purify up to 1 million gallons of water to 99.9% purity.

When you enjoy a cup of coffee at Cerulean Blue, you are helping provide clean drinking water to a family in need. It’s a win-win situation!

The Coffee

While making a difference in the world is at the center of everything we do, we’re also
passionate about tasty, high-quality coffee! At Cerulean Blue, we have two single-origin coffees that we use to craft your favorite coffee drinks.

For drip coffee, we use Santa Barbara, a Honduran coffee with round, earthy, mellow notes. This coffee works great for our drip because it’s simple and easy to sip on, making it enjoyable whether you’re a coffee snob or someone just looking for your morning dose of caffeine.

Our espresso is made with Antigua, a Guatemalan coffee. In contrast with Santa Barbara, Antigua is a complex and sharp coffee with fruity notes. This makes it perfect for espresso and espresso-based drinks.

Quarterly Nonprofits

Separate from our continuous partnership with Serve Hope International, we also choose one nonprofit to support every quarter. So far, we have partnered with two different nonprofits: You Can Free US and Broken Halos Haven. Read on to learn more about these incredible organizations!

You Can Free Us

You Can Free Us works to create a better world through various efforts. Their goals are to end human trafficking, to put a stop to child labor in countries across the world, and to offer support to widows and fatherless families.

You Can Free Us strives to not only meet the direct needs of the women and children who they aid, but to also educate, empower, and advocate for them. Direct efforts include rescuing women and children from human trafficking and child labor. Beyond that, though, You Can Free Us also supports families recovering from these atrocities and works to educate the general population about the dangers of these things. Currently, across India, You Can Free Us has rescued 19 women and children from these conditions, and they have 32 people living in their safehouses.

Additionally, You Can Free Us works to help widows and fatherless families. This population of the globe is often vulnerable, economically disadvantaged, and more susceptible to discriminatory violence. During the COVID-19 pandemic, this became increasingly apparent. Since then, You Can Free Us has come alongside widows and fatherless families to offer emotional and financial support as they grieve and readjust to daily life, providing mortgage-free homes, cars, and even financial grants. At this time, You Can Free Us supports 13 widows as they experience grief and loss.

With your help, not only were we able to raise awareness for You Can Free Us, but we were also able to match a $25,000 donation, which went towards opening a child development center in Udaan, India!

Broken Halos Haven

This quarter, we are proud to partner with Broken Halos Haven. This organization provides a space in the DFW for widows and their families to go during the grieving process when they need a distraction or a break from normal routines that serve as painful reminders.

The idea for Broken Halos Haven came to Natalie Reid Knutson in the wake of the loss of her own husband. In 2018, her husband passed away suddenly after a heart attack. While she and her three sons felt a tremendous amount of support from friends, family, and her church community, she also dreaded the holiday season, as it would painfully emphasize the loss of her husband and the father of her boys.

Then, remembering an invitation from a friend in New York City, Natalie called her up: “What are you doing on Christmas Eve this year?” Natalie and her family were able to spend a week in New York City, away from the reminders of their grief for a moment. Natalie decided then that she wanted to allow other widows and fatherless families to have the same experience: with that, Broken Halos Haven was born!

Widows and their family can stay at Broken Halos Haven, a renovated home in Old Town
Lewisville, free of charge! Aside from offering a getaway from grief, Broken Halos Haven offers programs for grieving families to help them readjust to life after loss. These programs include:

● Man Camp: Growing up without a father figure can leave young boys impressionable
and lacking certain life skills that their father would have taught them. Man Camp pairs
boys age 6 through 18 with “mentor dads” to teach them simple but valuable lessons,
from how to start a lawnmower to how to treat a woman. This program is also completely free!

● SHIFT: For children and teenagers, understanding their loss and navigating the
associated feelings can be a particularly challenging process. SHIFT is a faith-based
semester-long course that walks them through the grieving process in an age
appropriate way.

● Honey Dudes: While most widows are capable of handling maintenance tasks around
the home, there’s a chance that their spouse used to handle them. Not only can this stir
up intense emotions related to grief, but it can also become a burden for widows to take
on every single household chore. Honey Dudes is a volunteer-based program where
men can sign up to do these tasks - installing fixtures, mowing the lawn, etc. - for widows
in their area!

We are so excited to see how our community comes together this quarter in support of Broken Halos Haven!

Community Engagement

Not only does Cerulean Blue care about reaching a global community, but we are also focused on fostering a sense of community right here in Flower Mound, Texas.

Our mission is to be the living room of Flower Mound. When you come in, we want you to smell the fresh aroma of baked goods and the warm smell of coffee… and we want you to feel right at home.

How do we foster that sense of community and belonging? For starters, we provide exceptional, friendly service and comfortable, spacious seating options. We even have charging stations we for you, if you need to get a little work done!

Additionally, since our opening, we have proudly hosted a variety of community events right here at the coffee house. Including prayer nights and book signings, we’ve loved being able to share our space with the community! Not only have we hosted events, but we’ve also been able to provide cookies and coffee to teachers and first responders to show our appreciation for them.

Serving Joy, Transforming Community

While great coffee and great service are such a huge part of what we do at Cerulean Blue Coffee House, we are so much more than that. Behind everything we do is a love for community and a desire to make a real impact in the world.

Whether you’re stopping by for your morning cup of joe, meeting with a friend, or just trying to catch up on work, you can rest assured knowing your purchase with us changes lives. We hope you’ll come visit us soon!
