We’d like you to introduce you to our Chief Baker Jessica! Jessica is the daughter of Cerulean Blue’s founders and owners, Paul and Jackie Dietzler, and she’s a huge reason that Cerulean Blue Coffee House exists today. Read on, and learn more about the person behind our delicious
food menu and baked goods!
Where It Began
Baking has been a part of Jesica’s story for almost her entire life. When she was around four or five years old, she remembers helping her parents bake simple treats for friends and family. As she grew older and developed her sense of independence, though, she began baking consistently on her own as a hobby.
As she grew older, her baking skills developed more and more. She would experiment with recipes and baked often for her family. Not only did she find baking to be relaxing and a creative outlet, but she also began to view it as a way to express love and care:
“Being able to bake for my family was an act of love,” she recalls. “Cooking and baking has allowed me to demonstrate to people that I love and care for them - plus, who doesn’t like treats, y’know?”
Seeing her love for baking and the amount of care she put into it, the rest of the Dietzler family encouraged Jess to share her passion with the rest of the world through pursuing baking as a career. However, something always held Jess back. She worried about turning her passion into her job, and she doubted her ability to bake on a commercial scale. However, somewhere in the back of her mind, she dreamed of opening her own bakery one day.
Putting Jess to the Test
In college, Jess majored in Human Development and Family Studies. While she enjoyed her time in college, she graduated feeling even less sure about her future career than when she entered. She would often find hobbies or potential career paths that she enjoyed, but nothing gave her the fulfillment she was looking for.
One day, Paul approached Jessica with a request – he had a leadership training coming up and wanted Jessica to cater the event. Baking for this many people was something Jessica had never done before; instead of baking for her family of six, she would be baking for over nearly two hundred people! Despite her hesitations, she decided to give it a try, knowing that this would show her whether or not she could make a career out of her lifelong hobby.
After the event, she received feedback from her dad’s coworkers and friends - they all loved her treats! Catering this event gave Jessica a boost of confidence; she felt proud of herself for sharing her baking outside of her family and rising to the challenge of baking for so many people. “I felt exhausted, but it was so worth it!” she claims as she recalls the event. Throughout that time, the Dietzlers had contemplated opening a coffee house as a way to give back to their community and foster togetherness within it. After Jess’s success with the event, the Dietzlers found a third reason for opening a coffee house in Flower Mound: To give Jess a space to practice her baking and start her career as a professional baker.
A Day in the Life
Today, Jessica is our Chief Baker. Not only does she create all of our recipes, but she manages a team of other bakers who are all excited to bring you delicious pastries and meals every single day. Managing the bakery has been an incredible learning and growing process for Jessica. Not only has she been able to focus on her skills as a baker, but she has also learned a lot about leadership, managing a staff, recipe development, and production.
“With Cerulean Blue, it’s like, ‘Okay Jess, you’re the head baker, you have to put yourself out there.’ Every day is a learning process for me. Every day I learn something new.” On top of managing the bakery, Jessica also manages the kitchen - a new experience for her. She works with our head line cook, Alyssa, to develop recipes and manage the kitchen staff. Like any job, some days are easier than others. However, with each day, Jess’s confidence grows! She is extremely thankful and proud of the hard work she’s put in, how much she’s learned so far, and the incredible support she’s received from her entire family.
Our Menu
Since our opening, Jess and her team of line cooks and bakers have been hard at work creating an unforgettable menu for you to enjoy with friends and family. Our menu is constantly changing and evolving, so come in and discover your new favorite menu item!
Bakery Items
We offer a wide variety of baked goods that range from classic coffee house staples to fun and innovative flavors. One of Jess’s favorite pastry creations so far is the Biscuit Bomb! The Biscuit Bomb is one of her famous buttermilk biscuits with a hint of cinnamon, a velvety and light cream cheese frosting center, a caramelized biscuit bottom, and a dollop of cream cheese on top. This creates a delectable sweet and savory experience with the flavors of a cinnamon roll and the fluffy, warm
texture of a biscuit.
Another thing Jess is known for at Cerulean Blue is her cookies! At Cerulean Blue, we have a variety of consistent cookie flavor offerings, such as our Chocolate Chunk and GOAT cookies. Did you know we also have a Cookie of the Month? Every month, Jess develops a new and fun cookie offering for you to try. This month, come try her Triple Chocolate Chip cookie, which uses semi-sweet, dark, and white chocolate to create a deliciously decadent cookie!
Have a Cookie of the Month that you loved but worried that it’s gone forever? No need! Jess occasionally brings back limited batches of old Cookie of the Month favorites, so keep your eyes peeled to see if your old favorite comes back! We’d also love to cater your next event! Head to the Catering section of our menu to see all of your available options.
Meals
If you’re looking for something more substantial than a pastry, we also have breakfast and lunch offerings available. Our kitchen offers a variety of sandwiches, salads, and other items for you to enjoy - come grab a couple breakfast tacos on your way to work, enjoy a warm grilled cheese on a cold day, or meet with a friend over our Strawberry Pecan Salad. Just like with our pastries, Jess and her team are constantly testing new recipes and creating new dishes. One of our newest additions is our Chicken Caesar Wrap, a fun take on a healthy classic. For all of our Caesar salad lovers, come try one today and discover your new go-to meal-on-the-go!
Why We Do What We Do
For as long as Jess remembers, her family has encouraged her to pursue her passion for baking. Why? Just like everything else we do at Cerulean Blue, Jess’s baking is a way for her to give back to the community: “My dad has always said I have a servant's heart, and I think my baking is a way that I show that.” Through managing our bakery, Jess has found both a passion and a way to love those around her. We hope that, next time you visit the coffee house, you feel the love baked into every single one of Jess’s pastries. Visit Cerulean Blue Coffee House today, and discover for yourself the
community and joy happening in the living room of Flower Mound!
